The Palermo Protocol provides a universal definition of Human Trafficking, which consists of three core elements:

The victim consent becomes irrelevant, whenever any of the above mentioned “means” are employed. It is essential to note that if the victim is a girl, boy or adolescent, it shall not be necessary that said means have been used in order for them to be considered as victims of human trafficking. In other words, a child cannot consent even if the 'means' are not involved.

In brief, human trafficking is the concurrence of several activities, where one or more persons take advantage of certain resources to “approach” or “take” someone else with the purpose of exploiting him/her.
